What will Midjourney's pricing be in 2026? A full budget analysis

By SubPlaza

A complete breakdown of Midjourney's 2026 monthly and annual prices, GPU time, video costs, and hidden budgets to help you choose between Basic, Standard, Pro, or Mega.

As of July 2026, Midjourney still offers four subscription tiers: Basic, Standard, Pro, and Mega. Monthly prices are $10, $30, $60, and $120 respectively; annual pricing equates to $8, $24, $48, and $96 per month, but requires full upfront payment. Price is only the first layer; what truly determines the total budget is Fast GPU time, Relax Mode, video resolution, privacy needs, and additional GPU purchases.

Is the annual plan really a better deal?

The annual discount is 20%, but it's a one-time payment, and unused months won't automatically convert into credits if you pause your creations. Only if you expect to use it for at least 10 months a year with relatively stable demand does the annual plan become clearly worthwhile. First-time Midjourney users are better off starting with a monthly plan for one month to confirm their generation frequency and image-to-video ratio before deciding.

Converting GPU Time into Actual Output

Official estimates indicate that a set of 4 SD images consumes about 0.8 minutes of Fast GPU time, while HD images take about 1.3 minutes; a set of 4 SD videos takes about 8 minutes, and HD videos about 26 minutes. This shows that with the same 15 hours of Fast time, if all used for SD images, the theoretical number of jobs is far higher than if all used for HD videos. Actual usage is also affected by aspect ratio, model, reruns, upscaling, and editing, so theoretical numbers should be seen as a budget ceiling, not guaranteed output.

Why does Relax Mode change the budget?

Standard, Pro, and Mega offer unlimited Relax image generation, which is ideal for queuing exploration, drafts, and low-priority tasks while saving Fast time for final candidates. For video, only Pro and Mega support SD Relax video; HD video still requires Fast Mode. This is also the main economic reason for video creators to upgrade from Standard to Pro.

Four easily overlooked hidden costs

  • Failures and reruns: When prompts are unstable, the same topic may need multiple rounds of generation.
  • HD and video extensions: HD Batch 4 has high costs, and extending once again consumes the initial generation cost.
  • Privacy: Stealth is only included in Pro and Mega; a private Discord channel itself does not prevent works from appearing on the Midjourney website.
  • Post-production tools: Commercial final deliverables may also require budgets for image editing, video editing, upscaling, fonts, and stock assets.

Choose a plan based on usage scenario

  • Occasional learning, a few images per month: Basic, start by controlling reruns.
  • Ongoing images, social media, and design exploration: Standard, usually the best value for money.
  • Video creation, client privacy, frequent commercial use: Pro, Relax video and Stealth are most critical.
  • Studios, teams, and high-volume production: Mega, key value lies in GPU time and concurrency.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Midjourney have a free version?

The full official creative features are primarily available through paid subscriptions. Any promotions, trials, or third-party access should be subject to the official page at the time.

Which tier should a company purchase for commercial use?

General paid plans are subject to standard commercial terms; official terms require companies with annual revenue exceeding $1 million to use Pro or Mega. Specific projects should still refer to local laws and the latest terms.
